Night Out Against Crime
Come meet your neighbors and join in the fun with games, music, food, and more! Our annual Night Out Against Crime is taking place on Tuesday, October 15th from 5:00 pm to 7:00pm. Statistically, it’s known that when neighbors know and talk to each other, crime goes down! So join us, and lets all tackle crime together!
YMCA Afterschool Program
This program provides physical, educational, and cultural activities for children ages 5-14. Sessions are at Tulane Baptist Memorial Church, 3601 Paris Avenue, Monday-Thursday, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The cost to parents is $5 per week. If you have questions regarding the program, please contact Neal at 504-888-9622 or stop by the Kingsley House office at Columbia Parc for an application.
Recycle That Jack O’ Lantern
Carving pumpkins for Halloween is such a fun family activity, but have you ever thought of other potential uses? Here are a few ideas for making your Jack o’ Lantern more than just a doorstep greeter.
  • Scoop out the insides and use them in recipes such as pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, or a pumpkin face mask.
    Find more recipes here.
  • Once the insides are scooped out, place a water glass inside and use it as a decorative vase for displaying flowers!
  • For those who don’t like making a mess, you can dress your pumpkin up with stickers, paint, and glitter instead-and they will last a lot longer!

Our friends at Purpose Built Communities will be bringing representatives from over 30 US cities to Columbia Parc On Wednesday October 2nd. This group will be studying Columbia Parc to see if similar work can be undertaken in their communities. Please excuse any inconvenience and we thank you for your support of Bayou District Foundation and Columbia Parc.

Columbia Parc’s garden will begin operations in October. A ‘cover crop’ is being planted to push nutrients into the soil on site. Please contact Bayou District Foundation’s Jacob Peters at 504-272-0307 or if you are interested in volunteering in the community garden.
