People of Parc

What do President Barack Obama and billionaireinvestor and philanthropist Warren Buffett have in common?Well, visits to Columbia Parc, of course!

How does an apartment community in New Orleans make it onto the radar screens of these two prominent, influential Americans? We know the 46-seat theatre, resort-style pool with splash park, and front porches are really cool features, but enough to warrant their attention?

The devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina transformed lives forever, but it is what happens next that has generated curiosity and admiration in Columbia Parc and its role as the catalyst for a broader community redevelopment initiative known as the Bayou District.

The Bayou District is a master planned neighborhood designed to promote a healthy, vibrant community centered upon housing, education, and recreation. Columbia Parc represents the first phase in the creation of this neighborhood. The next development phase, education, includes new on- and off-site campuses—early childhood education facilities, a K–8 school, and a high school. For the final phase, more recreational facilities are planned on-site as well as within neighboring City Park.

So the next time you visit Columbia Parc and are blown away by the classic New Orleans-inspired architecture, spacious home interiors, and magnetic amenities, keep in mind that this is only the beginning of a bright future for the Bayou District neighborhood and all of its residents.
